The PVS-14 night vision system is now available with the latest Generation 3 filmless tube. Research innovators have now perfected the latest step in night vision technology by removing the ion film barrier within the night vision tube. Previous attempts at removing the film were inaccurately dubbed as “Generation 4” technology by a major company within the industry. In truth, the U.S. military contract was terminated because the process left the tubes too fragile for normal use. Now that the manufacturing process has been perfected, a robust Generation 3, filmless tube is available. The result is a more crisp image with less “halo effect” around bright lights, greater light sensitivity, and generally a greater signal-to-noise ratio. If there truly was an official “Generation 4” designation, this would be it.
The highly versatile Sentry PVS-14 system can be adapted from a hand-held to a hands-free single eye goggle or as a night vision weapon system when coupled to a daytime close quarters battle sight.
Simple user controls include a 3-position switch (OFF/ON/Momentary and constant IR). The built-in IR light is practical for map reading and illuminating close targets in complete darkness. The system’s Generation 3 image tube features Automatic Brightness Control and is protected by fully-automated sensors that shut off the unit within seconds if accidentally exposed to bright light. Sophisticated electronics turn off the PVS-14 when removed from the head or helmet mount or when shifted into to the “UP” position.
